Does this problem sound familiar to you? You are ready to start planning a vacation but don’t know where you want to go! It can get frustrating when you don’t have enough information about the options available and where to find them. The good news is that a Travel Advisor can not only provide you with ideas and information about destinations, accommodations, and activities but can also help you plan and book the trip for you!
So, where should you begin when trying to figure out where to go if you don’t already have a destination in mind? Here are five tips that will help you to come up with some great ideas:
1. Assess your vacation needs. Ask yourself what you would like to achieve from your overall experience. For example, you may wish to focus on relaxation- spending most of your days soaking in the sun at a gorgeous beach with white sand and crystal-clear blue water. Or perhaps a week stay at a world-class spa, complete with a nutrition program that includes healthy, chef-prepared meals, yoga & meditation, and a wide range of outdoor activities to participate in, such as hiking, bicycling, and kayaking, snorkeling, or even golf!
2. Look at different destinations, resorts, and cruise itineraries to discover the experiences, events, and activities offered at each destination. Conduct an initial web search to find out more about a vacation destination of interest through articles, watching videos, or looking at trip ratings from other consumers who have already visited the destination. There’s lots of information available online! Next, take inventory of what you currently like to do. Would you like to challenge yourself by taking these experiences to another level at another location?
3. Coordinate the destination with the best time of year to visit that location. Not getting this right can downright spoil a vacation! For example, planning to relax at a beach at a destination where it is hurricane season is probably not a good idea. Likewise, hiking in the snow may not be desirable or attainable in certain regions. Take time to get informed about seasonal offerings at different destinations beforehand.
4. Decide on whether you wish to travel domestically or internationally. If you live in the U.S. and plan to travel domestically, a passport is not required if you have another valid form of identification. However, if you don’t have one, you will need to obtain one before you can travel internationally. Before planning a trip to another country, you should consult a government website like www.travel.state.gov to stay updated on all things related to travel requirements for where you would like to go, as well as information about passports and processing times.
5. Enlist the help of a Travel Advisor. As a Travel Advisor, I highly recommend allowing an advisor to help you with your trip planning needs. There are so many reasons why an advisor is essential, but for this article, the short answer is that an advisor has excellent supplier/partner relationships and the ability to uplevel your travel experience in a way you can’t do on your own! In addition, in the current travel climate, it is vital to have someone available to help you navigate the challenges that happen more frequently.
If you follow these tips, you will surely be on the right track to choosing the perfect destination to fit your current travel needs. So, are you ready?
